A Cage We Call Society

Surviving this world
Is surviving an unending race
With an extremely skewed starting pool
Stereotypes define our societal pillars
They create barriers.
Barriers that are a vice around the heart.
Around the mind.
They grip you,
they pull you down.
Expectations.
Disappointment.
Ideals.
So many standards.
Society is the cage for every human being.
Women are riddled with doubt.
Doubt that is sewn into the very fabric of the ideals of the world.
Society defines us as weak.
As inferior.
We conform.
Men are riddled with pressure
They don a thousand masks.
Don’t crack.
Don’t ruin the facade.
Never share your pain.
It is weak.
They conform.
Weakness.
Power.
One born into power,
One born into suppression
Neither has a voice
A way out of this prison
We advocate for change
To advance society
But too much of our society has been constructed on a weak foundation
Too many of us are still
Bound
To society’s prison of power
